Easter is increasingly being treated as a major commercial holiday, with retailers expanding their offerings to include decorations, gifts, and homewares. Retail analyst Trent Rigby observed that Easter is now seen as a “second Christmas” for consumers, who are opting for non-chocolate gifts like toys, clothing, and even alcohol. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have fuelled the popularity of Easter styling and home decorating. Retailers such as Woolworths and Kmart have reported significant growth in Easter-themed sales. Rigby also highlighted how the rise of Easter coincides with a shift in attitudes towards other holidays, with many seeing Easter as the first chance to celebrate together after the summer period.
