The ACCC has launched legal action against Coles and Woolworths, alleging they misled customers with deceptive discounting tactics. Shoppers online had already been raising concerns about so-called “illusory discounts,” where prices were temporarily increased before being advertised as a discount. Emma Easton, a strategist at RetailOasis, highlighted another tactic, saying, “Shrinkflation really is another form of hidden inflation. The actual size of the product is reducing.
